First time I’ve ever hired movers out of the 16 times I’ve moved in my adult life.

10/10 would recommend.

Also, I'm gonna miss this back yard.

next time i move ill get movers... last time we moved we had had a family member who swore high and low he had a van and would move our stuff across countries.. cool right? yay family

anyhoo i went on ahead 3 months early to get a job and a house sorted

and when the time came to move the missus, daughter, cats and stuff across said family member turned up in one of these

had to leave a lot of stuff behind....missus daughter and cats ended up coming over by boat to free up more van space (also coz there was only room for one of them to ride along)

lesson learnt

I really wish I had. Just wasn't in the budget.

My pickup can hold a lot of crap, but my body wore out quickly. Pack everything, stack it. Pack more stuff. Load said heavily packed crap into truck. Unload heavily packed crap into home. Repeat about tree fiddy times.

I've never had movers. But you damn well better believe I've wanted to. Is it really as easy and pain free as I think it is?

I’ve been getting about 4 hours of sleep every night since closing trying to get work done on the new house... This is such a nice break. I planned to move myself, but help is hard to find and all the family is out of town.

I’ll be working on the new house again tonight until about 3am.

oh no doubt.... wouldnt be as annoying if it hadnt for the fact we asked him... its a full size van right? coulda planned around it being a small van if we’d known before... but you know... faulty intel makes for faulty plans

When the Mrs. and I moved from Florida to Oregon, I bought a 6x12  cargo trailer and told her we’re only keeping the stuff that fits!

The last time I moved it was about 1800 miles. I didn’t have a car worth taking with me so what I did was to hire just the labor to load/unload  at each end and drove the truck myself. Easy and cheap.

Looking back, I should have bought my 3/4 ton suburban before that trip. I towed the way-overloaded trailer behind a Dodge Magnum RT that was also loaded to the gills. The car just felt worn out after I subjected it to that, and it was never the same.

We hired movers for our last move. That was a great decision. We still moved quite a bit of small and fragile items ourselves because of the extra cost if it was over a certain number of boxes.

It was well worth the cost to have someone else move my 750lbs gun safe.

So are they doing all the packing as well? or just moving the big stuff? I’ve heard of corporate moves where they literally box up everything - down to  the knick knacks and tchotchkes and frau fraus and such...

I didn't even have my gun safe on the list of stuff I wanted them to move, but they took it anyway. No complaints!

We moved from an apartment with a storage unit when we bought the house 3 years ago. I swore that was the last time without movers and I’m sticking to it.

I’m a farm kid and a cheap ass , and as such I’ve always had an “I’ll do it all- I ain’t paying anyone else to do shit” mentality. As I advance through my 30s, however, it's nice to let someone else do some stuff.

We didn’t originally because the moving company said it was up to the crew whether they would take something that heavy. A water jug being  re filled with iced tea was all the negotiating it took to get it on the truck.

Last time w e moved our baby grand piano ourselves. NEVER AGAIN. (Will definitely call the pros next time).  Someone gave my brother in law a nice baby grand recently. He asked my advice about moving it. I said don’t touch it — call the pros.

Variety is the spice of life? I've lived in 12 different cities in 5 states. Mostly by choice. It's been fun, but I really hope to stay put for a while now.
